Named after Senator Jacob K. Javits (US Senator, New York District 21, 1957-1981), the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center of New York opened in 1986 as a replacement for the New York Coliseum. Its glass-enclosed building was designed by I.M. Pei & Partners, and is the busiest convention center in the United States, attracting top tradeshows and hosting over 2.5 million visitors annually. Major renovations, including a new roof and replacement of the exterior glass wall, were completed in 2013 along with upgrades to both the mechanical and electrical systems, as well as interior reconfigurations. The redesign and renovations were designed by Javits II Architecture, LLC, with the purpose of enhancing the visitor experience and the building's operational efficiency, while remaining true to the original design concepts of I.M. Pei & Partners. The 1.8 million square foot Javits Convention Center has been immortalized in this Metal Earth 3D laser cut steel model. Fully assembled, the model is approximately 4" in length and 3" wide and 2" high. This is a Silver Edition Metal Earth Model, and features 2 sheets of laser cut pieces.
